What is a Prosthodontist?


Prosthodontics is the branch of dentistry concerned with the design, manufacture, and fitting of artificial replacements for teeth and other parts of the mouth.  It is the specialty of dentistry that is extensively trained on esthetics and function of the human dentition.  Prosthodontics is one of nine dental specialties recognized by the ADA (American Dental Association).  The ADA defines it as “the dental specialty pertaining to the diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation and maintenance of the oral function, comfort, appearance and health of patients with clinical conditions associated with missing or deficient teeth and/or oral and maxillofacial tissues using biocompatible substitutes.”
